Shannon Iris

Pre-Licensed Therapist and Apprenticeship Program Lead

Shannon Iris (she/her), MA, LPCC. Shannon uses the therapeutic relationship to explore new ways of being in relationship with self and others, build new habits from experiential awareness and find meaning and purpose.

Shannon’s approach to therapy is based on developmental and attachment theories and begins with the most basic intention: total acceptance of all aspects of the self. She operates on the premise that acceptance brings us into a conscious relationship with the many parts of ourselves needing attention, especially those formed long ago under duress.

Shannon trusts that the ways we learned to navigate and survive our early family systems were brilliant in those contexts. She also understands that those old ways become limiting over time. Outdated ways of relating are rigid and restrict our ability to connect with what is present today, which leads to suffering. Shannon’s existential foundation defines suffering as part of being human. Because suffering is universal, Shannon uses it as a doorway to connection. Using mindful, embodied awareness to examine the relationship to suffering in the here and now releases bound-up energy to make lasting changes toward contentment and self-mastery.

Shannon received her MA from Naropa University in Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling. In her spare time she enjoys traveling the country, adventuring with her adult children, paddle boarding, skating, yoga, hiking with Lumen Furturkey (the doggo), taking photos, and continually looking for and shedding light on disowned aspects of herself.
