Licensed Therapist

Amanda Bourgeois (she/her), MA, LPC, is an active and curious psychotherapist licensed in the states of Texas and Louisiana . In her 11 year career, she has practiced in Denver, CO, Austin, TX, and Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA. She has enjoyed treating adults and adolescents with eating disorders, as well as career issues, life transitions, struggles with self-worth, and negative feelings about food, exercise, and body image. She has also found great reward in working with parents and other family members of individuals with eating disorders or other psychological or behavioral issues, helping them best support their loved ones. Amanda believes that every one of us deserves to live the fullest life we can, even with the very real obstacles that stand in our way. She also believes that struggling is an inherent part of being human. The work she does is grounded in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on learning to live fully even when painful things show up. Amanda believes therapy can be playful while still focusing on feelings and thoughts that can feel serious and even scary. In her family work, Amanda uses Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) to empower parents and other caregivers to support their loved one to approach, process, and manage emotions. She believes that  parents can learn to give children what they need to heal themselves as well as improve their relationships. She also enjoys helping parents learn skills to take care of themselves even when feeling exhausted or frustrated. Amanda has a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education from University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders from Louisiana State University.
