Southwest Colorado Hospitality Recovery Pro Bono Program

The hospitality industry employs a staggering 14 million people, representing 10% of the United States workforce. Unfortunately, hospitality workers face higher rates of substance misuse, are disproportionately underinsured, and are often unable to access affordable mental health therapy.

We can help.

Khesed has partnered with CHOW and In the Weeds to make mental health therapy accessible for Southwest Colorado hospitality workers navigating substance misuse recovery.

Participants must meet the following qualifications:

  • 18+

  • Resides in La Plata, Montezuma, Archuleta, or Eagle County

  • Employed in hospitality industry

  • Pursuing substance misuse recovery

Each participant will receive 16 free sessions. Upon completion of the program, participants have the option to continue services through our other ongoing affordable or free programs. Complete our intake form to get started with one of our therapists, and contact us with any questions.

Why do hospitality workers need substance misuse support?

  • 17% of food service workers have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder.

  • 11.8% of food service workers reported binge drinking during the last month

  • 19.1% of food service workers report using illicit drugs during the last month

  • 1 in 6 restaurant workers live below the poverty line.

  • Just 14.4 percent of restaurant workers receive health insurance from their employer, compared with roughly half (48.7 percent) of other workers.

Hospitality workers residing in Southwest Colorado are disproportionately impacted by economic inequities and are surrounded by therapy deserts, resulting in mental health disparities.

Southwest Colorado has some of the lowest rates of insured folks in the state.
