BIPOC Pro Bono Program

Khesed Wellness received support from the Nonprofit Finance Fund to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color through a BIPOC Pro Bono Program in Denver. While this funding is restricted to Denver, we are actively pursuing additional funding to expand this program to all our geographic areas.

What does BIPOC mean?

The term, “people of color” has been used for centuries and is often abbreviated as POC. The term BIPOC, which stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, is more expansive and accounts for the erasure of black people with darker skin and Native Americans.

While BIPOC can be a unifying term to identify groups of people with shared identities and experiences, it is important to honor the unique stories, challenges, and lived experiences of every individual within this community. Not every person who identifies as BIPOC is the same.

Tell me more about the BIPOC community and mental health.

The BIPOC community is disproportionately impacted by systemic oppression and racial injustices, resulting in health disparities. While mental health conditions do not discriminate based on race, color, gender, or identity, one’s background and identity can make access to mental health treatment much more difficult.

Khesed Wellness exists to advance equity in mental health care, and marginalized communities are at the center. We are providing 24 free mental health therapy sessions for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in Denver. Our average client sees a therapist twice a month, so participants will receive about 1 year of therapy for free.

In order to qualify, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Lives in Denver City or County

  • Identifies as BIPOC

  • Seeking individual outpatient counseling, up to weekly sessions

Each participant will receive 24 FREE sessions. Upon completion of the program, participants have the option to continue services through our other ongoing affordable or free programs. Submit an intake form and schedule an appointment to get started.
